First post and a big head (literally)

Hello everyone…anyone?

It’s been quite some time since I last kept a blog. Thinking about it, it’s been three years now! Clearly college has kept me busy and firmly rooted in the real world. However, I’ve been finding myself itching to blog again now that I actually have interesting things to share.

So what is this blog going to be about? Making stuff. From fine art to kitchy crafts and everything in between.

As a studio art (and business) major, I obviously do a lot of drawing, but I have a huge passion for more “crafty” pursuits. To me, it’s all the same, but academia doesn’t always seem to agree. Oh well.

My most recent studio art project is for my drawing class: a “monumental” self-portrait. I usually dislike doing self-portraits, because I feel like it’s a bit conceited, but there was no wiggle room in this assignment.

Whenever I’m given a choice of media to use, I automatically choose ink. Personally I dislike painting (acrylic, oil), but ink and watercolor are major exceptions. They’re the best of both worlds. I don’t know if I’m weird for thinking that, but I always seem to be the only person using ink. Ninety percent of people go for compressed charcoal which I loathe. Way to messy for my neat-freak self. I’ve nicknamed the drawing studio the “coal mine” because every surface is coated in charcoal dust. Black lung is inevitable.

I digress.

My starting dimensions were 32″x40″ as you can see here. That drawing board almost tipped over my easel several times, it’s so dang heavy! Anywhoo, this was a progress shot towards the end. A little more detail and then…snip snip!

Creepy, no?
